“Rachel Stark is a meticulous editor with rock-solid story instincts. They’re able to wrap their brain entirely around a graphic novel project—to make sure that the script, the art and the colors are all working together. Rachel and I worked together on Pumpkinheads, and I came to trust them implicitly. (They are also a lovely person!)”

bestselling author of Carry OnEleanor & Park, and Pumpkinheads

Testimonials

I am an editor at Disney-Hyperion, where I acquire and edit middle grade and young adult novels and graphic novels for all ages. I acquired and edited Simon Sort of Says by Erin Bow, which was awarded a 2024 Newbery Honor and Schneider Family Book Award Honor and was longlisted for the 2023 National Book Award. I’ve also had the privilege of editing a host of award-winning and best-selling creators, including Alexandra Bracken (Lore, a #1 New York Times best-seller), Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks (Pumpkinheads, a New York Times best-seller), Jen Wang (Stargazing, winner of the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature), John Patrick Green (kicking off his InvestiGators series), Jason June, Pablo Cartaya, and more. Feel free to browse the books I’ve edited, or take a moment to read what writers have to say about working with me!

I joined Disney-Hyperion in 2020 after stints in editorial and marketing at First Second/Macmillan, Scholastic, Simon & Schuster, Bloomsbury, and Sky Pony Press. As an acquiring editor, I’m particularly interested in high-concept fantasy, contemporary fantasy, humor, and horror, as well as expertly plotted, diverse contemporary fiction. My taste is upmarket with a strong commercial hook, and I’m particularly drawn to stories in any genre that elevate historically excluded voices; genre stories that critique or subvert power structures; sharp and original humor; and authentic, unforgettable voices and art styles.
